Summary

Mr. Albert Edward Smith, who left Faversham 36 years ago for America with only a few pence in his pocket, has reached London a millionaire. He is the head of the Vitagraph Cinematograph Company, and has come to England partly on business and partly to revisit Faversham. Mr. Smith did not really know how he had made his money. 'I messed about, I experimented, I fell into the film business, and then I eliminated the flicker from the movies.' Mr. Smith was making the earliest films with Stuart Blackton before this, and jokingly said that all the time the film business was producing 'the most wonderful thing in the world.' 'Now I have brought over a film called ‘Captain Blood.' I built full-sized model battleships for it, there are real guns, and it required the Pacific Ocean for the stage!'
