Summary

The other week were published in the North-China Daily News particularly relating to the unaccountably early showing of two Charlie Chaplin features in Shanghai, 'The Kid' last summer and 'The Idle Class' during the present month. It was shown that Ramos Amusements Ltd. had obtained prints of these two productions before the copies reached Pathe-Orient, the firm of distributors to whom, with the management of the Apollo Theatre, exclusive right for China were granted. The eight 'million dollar' Chaplin 'features,' produced by the First National Film Corporation, were intended to reach China. The first four films of the series were 'Shoulder Arms,' 'A Dog's Life,' 'Sunny Side' and 'A Day of Pleasure.' 'The Kid' was also announced at the Victoria Theatre and 'The Idle Class' at the Empire Theatre. The article also mentioned that a Japanese was recently apprehended by the police for attempting to export illegally the latest D. W. Griffith production, 'Way Down East.'
