Summary

(To the Editor, S. C. M. Post) I feel bound to reply to Unklutch's latest sneer at 'so-called super-productions.' The pictures for which the Coronet increased prices during the past twelve months were: 'Way Down East,' 'The Three Musketeers,' 'Intolerance,' 'The Four Horsemen,' 'Smilin' Through,' 'Hunting Big Game,' 'The Mark of Zorro,' and 'Robin Hood.' Which of these does your correspondent say was not a super-production? Which of them was not worth $2 a seat at the dearest performance and 40 cents at the cheapest? All of them were shown at $2 in Shanghai, which showed in addition 'Little Lord Fauntleroy,' 'Kismet,' 'Grandma's Boy,' 'Dr. Jack' and 'Nanook of the North' at super-production prices, while we were content to get usual rates for them. Our present film at the Coronet, 'The Prisoner of Zenda,' was also shown at $2 in the northern port and was considered good enough to be used as the opening programme at the newly erected Carlton Theatre. Next month, we are showing 'The Birth of a Nation' and 'Orphans of the Storm,' and I suppose 'Amusements,' 'Unklutch,' 'New Arrival' and 'Ennui' will raise a howl at being charged $2 to see them.
