Summary

Baron Winther, head of the Winther Research Expedition, arrived in Hongkong yesterday by the s.s. President van Buren, with a party of 18. The expedition has been undertaken to foster visual education throughout the world, and, by visual education, Baron Winther understands education through the agency of the motion picture. Baron Winther explained that the education film was a very poor apostle for education, and although he had been working for many years on the lines of establishing a clearing house for films of instructive value, it was only now that he saw any possibility of realizing his ambition. He works in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institute of New York. This expedition was the outcome of an educational urge, rather than a desire to create a business. There have been many previous expeditions. From here, the party will proceed to Singapore, Sumatra, the Celebes and up through the Indies.
