It is pleasant to know that despite all the criticism which has been levelled at the Colony in the past for its lack of musical appreciation, Italian Opera produced by capable artists is sure of a popular welcome. Rigoletto was produced at the Star on Monday evening. The performers are Mr. V. Scamuzzi, Mr. B. Cappelli, Miss Delza and Mr. Mauceri. The orchestra is directed by Mr. C. A. V. Castagnino. Last evening, the company gave Verdi's 'La Traviata,' which is adapted from the story of Dumas' 'Lady of the Camelia.' Cast includes Miss Delza, Signor C. Bernardi, Mesdames Aida Ba'larin, Vittorina Pollastri, Messrs. Carlo Giorgianni, Mario Contini and Concetto Paterna. Gounod's 'Faust' will be given, the ballet having now arrived with the prima donna, Miss Helena Cook and the ballet master Mr. Cherpino.
