Summary
A large number of people assembled at the Theatre Royal last night to witness the first demonstration in Hong Kong of Edison's latest invention Kinetophone, the union of moving picture with voice was pleasing and effective. The first item was a short description of the invention, given by a pictured lecturer whose gestures and lip movements corresponded with the sounds given off by the gramophone horn. A scene from Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar' and one from 'Les Cloches' followed. In the second part two short plays were performed, and the programme closed with a miniature concert performed by Edison's Minstrels.
