Kowloon Theatre in Nathan Road has been closed down and Hongkong Amusements Ltd., who own it, has acquired control of the Star Theatre. The reason given for the closing down of the Kowloon Theatre is that the European population across the harbour is not big enough yet to support two kinemas. Both theatres were losing money and Hongkong Amusements, Ltd., who control a number of theatres in Canton and Macao as well as in Hongkong, decided to buy out their competitors land run the Star Theatre on a scale equal to that of the Coronet. The new arrangement began on March 1 and Mr. Ray has many plans for improving the quality of the entertainment offered. He proposes eventually to run a comfortable tea lounge in connection with the theatre and this should prove a popular additional to the social amenities of Kowloon. The current attraction at the Star is a fine adaptation by Maurice Tourneur of Joseph Conrad's novel 'Victory.'
