Summary

The new Victoria Theatre, a fine building in Des Voeux Road, erected by Messrs. Ramos and Ramos, was opened last night, the initial performance being well attended, in spite of the attraction at the City Hall. The theatre is capable of seating upwards of 800 persons, the chairs being of the tip-up style. The body of the hall is occupied by the stalls and the dress circle is spacious and comfortable. The place is well lit up by electric light, and no less than forty-two fans have been installed. The machine room for the cinematograph apparatus is entirely shut off from the public by a thick concrete wall, and as the wood work has been reduced to a minimum, there is absolutely no danger of fire as far as the building is concerned. Messrs. Palmer and Turner were the architects.
