Summary
In the mere matter of amusement the cinematograph has gained almost unbounded popularity; for purposes of instruction its usefulness has been plainly demonstrated, and there is already indication of the possibilities in its application to science. Of the progress of the evolution, Mr. F. A. Talbot gives an interesting account in his 'Moving Pictures: How They Are Made and Worked' (William Heinemann) and it will probably surprise many people to learn that it was Edison who succeeded in devising the first machine to show photographs in natural movement. The article mainly quoted from Mr. Talbot's book. Some films are mentioned, like 'Fall of Troy,' 'The Crusaders' and 'The Siege of Calais.'
