Summary

To the Editor of the Hongkong Telegraph from H. W. Ray – Sir, I shall be glad if you will extend to me the courtesy of a few lines of space to reply to the paragraph headed 'Amusing incident at a local Cinema,' in your last evening's issue. The writer of it seems to have extracted much amusement from the fact that he knows other than the correct words for the well-known song 'When Johnnie comes marching home.' I am surprised that he did not derive equal entertainment from 'The Soldiers' Chorus' from Faust, 'The March of the men of Harlech' and 'The Lost Chord,' which were also played, and to each of which there is also a pot-house version. His idea that we should have played the National Anthem in the middle of the film, thus bringing the audience to their feet and preventing those behind from seeing anything of the picture is grotesque, to say the least of it.
