Summary

British film-producing companies have one point in common, and that is their devotion to literature. Every programme of forthcoming productions in England includes an entirely disproportionate number of screen version of popular novels. This article was about the advantages and disadvantages of the trend of filmmaking by adaptation from novels, instead of writing original film scripts. There is a prolific scenario writer called Langford Reed and another called Kenelm Foss, but on the whole British producers have made no attempt to encourage original screen plots for their productions. Several novelists had been mentioned in this article, including Robert Hichens, Hall Caine, W. J. Locke, Ethel M. Dell, Marie Corelli, Robert Hichens, Mary Cholmondeley and Temple Thurston. Film titles like 'Red Pottage,' 'Sally Bishop,' 'The Sorrows of Satan,' 'Derelicts,' and 'Flames' were mentioned.
