New Queen's Theatre is making some structural changes, most important of them being the removal of supporting columns which used to obstruct the view of the stage. Safety is being given the first priority in the construction and working of the new design which was prepared by Mr. L. Gain. Although the management was satisfied with the safety arrangements of the new design, due to continuous criticism they agreed to conduct more severe practical tests on a large scale on 20th November under the supervision of Public Works Department and in the presence of Mr. So Shek Chung on behalf of the owners and of representatives of the Hongkong Engineering and Construction Company Limited. The test results were in favour of the theatre and prove that the new construction is capable of accommodating a far greater number of people than the maximum number of people allowed to fill the available space.
