Newcastle is soon to have new by-laws in relation to theatres and music halls. A draft of them, drawn up by the Town Clerk, the City Engineer, and the Chief Constable of Newcastle, was recently issued. They prohibit persons standing in the gangways and passages, an include stringent conditions for the prevention of fire. Under these there is a clause dealing with cinematograph shows, which provides that no cinematograph or other similar apparatus involving the use of lengthy combustible film shall be exhibited in the theatre until the town surveyor and chief constable have been satisfied that all reasonable precautions have been taken against accident and danger of the public.
