Summary

Mr. Pereival Gibbon writes in the Daily Mail on St. Petersburg, and comment 'The lamp-festooned gates of the Aquarium filter the people of St. Petersburg, rejecting the common and unclean, together with the gorgeous and the opulent.' There is a theatre, an open air variety show, and a number of cafes. The entertainment is of the least enterprising, the least thrilling. But an obviously faked cinematograph, professing to show how Japan is catching it at the hands of the Russians, is immensely popular. Primitive, only half-educated, and very self-centred, they think in pictures, and these preposterous magic lantern shows stimulate them.
