Who are the people, one wonders, who write, or construct the cinematograph plays? Today, in Europe and America, and to a great extent even in such small colonies as Hongkong, the picture palace has become not only a diversion but an influence. The modern serious cinematograph plays might be classified as good, ridiculous and pernicious. When we say 'good,' we mean the play is reasonably faithful to life. However, there is an enormous demand for sane and sensible story-films, and that those which are of the reverse order are calculated to drive customers away from picture houses rather than to attract it.
