Summary

Much greater use might be made of the cinemas in Hongkong in the way of educational films illustrating traffic dangers. In this respect, we are a long way behind Shanghai. There, the Moving Picture Department of the British-American Tobacco Co. has done some work in educational films, its latest production, 'Safety First' showing the sad adventures of a young Chinese lad who did not look before he leaped. The boy emulates another boy whom he has seen a jump from a moving car, but he is not so successful, and falls, injuring his head seriously. The only actors in this life-like drama are the amateurs connected with the cinema department of the B. A. T., but they take part with the utmost ease and realism. Local incidents such as that given above would immediately have their appeal here, and the usefulness and also the entertaining value of Hongkong picture places would be increased if some enterprising firm started a similar educational process.
