A new Theatre with a seating capacity of thirteen hundred people and fitted with up-to-date technology is under construction near Queen's Road Central opposite D'Aguilar Street. The theatre will be 65 feet high, 212 feet long and 63 feet wide. The humungous Theatre will have twice the accommodation capacity than any other Theatre in the colony, including the Theatre Royal. In the stalls, there will be seating accommodation for 542, in the dress circle 266, and in the upper circle 416. Fitted with all the necessary infrastructure, the theatre will be suitable for either stage or screen entertainments. The theatre is to be a really high-class place of entertainment in classic renaissance style both interior and exterior. The building is erected to the order of a Chinese syndicate. Messrs. Palmer and Turner along with Hongkong Engineering and Construction Company are responsible for the building and designing. The actual building work is being carried out by Messrs. Ng Wah and the seats are being made in America.
