Police Sgt. McDonald was in the role of defendant yesterday, being charged with assult by the proprietor of the Chung Fa Mo Toy cinema. Appearing to prosecute for the Chinese proprietor, Mr. W. E. L. Shenton said that at the evening exhibition of pictures on May 27 the defendant was watching the pictures, but he became annoyed because he could not hear the explanation which was being given about the films. Defendant attributed this to the noisy conversation which the proprietor and another man sitting near him were carrying on. Defendant struck the proprietor on the elbow and words passes between them.
