Summary

Manchester, March 5 – An application on behalf of the proprietors of Manchester cinematography theatres for permission to open their premises to the public on Sundays was made to the Manchester Corporation Watch Committee today. Mr. E. T. Heys, managing director of a company conducting three cinema theatres, urged that there was strong public demand. The Bishop of Manchester (Dr. Temple) said he opposed the application because he believed that Sunday was something of enormous value to the people as a whole and was a day for quiet peace. – The Times
