Summary

Money transactions arranged by the parties in the Star Theatre were the subject of an action in the Summary Court yesterday before Mr. Justice Compertz when Leung Kam-yiu of the Hongkong Amusements Limited, sued to Lo Kam-yuen a clerk in the employ of the Asia Trading Company, for $200, the amount being due under a Chinese promissory note and an I. O. U. The plaintiff stated that he had known the defendant for ten years. He met him in the Star Theatre when the defendant asked for the loan of $100. Plaintiff refused to hand over the money until he got a promissory note. Later on, plaintiff let him have the money in exchange for an I. O. U. and at later date he got a cheque for $100 from the defendant, but the money was 'referred in drawer.' His Honour gave judgement for the plaintiff for $200 and costs.
