Summary

(To the Editor, S. C. M. Post.) This letter is a reply to Mr. H. W. Ray's letter in this morning's issue. First of all, some of the very best and most up-to-date Picture Palaces in London do not boast of an orchestra of five musicians, let alone ten. All that is required is a couple of pianists and violinists, in two watches. The next item is the recent elaborate cooling plant installed at the Coronet that cost $7,000. Many patrons have difficulty in finding seats to dodge the fan onslaught. The same thing applies in this instance to the World Theatre, large fans being but a few feet above the seating accommodation in the balcony. Next, does Mr. Ray think for one moment that the cheap brand of 'Serial' trash that he would obviously serve up to the better paying 'Chinese Theatre,' would appeal to the 65% of educated Chinese who attended the 'Robin Hood' performance? Why then was the price to see 'Big Game Hunting in Africa' and several predecessors, more than double at the Coronet than at the recently reconstructed and elaborately decorated Grand at Wanchai?
