The stupidly inane and absurd pictures which are exploited by the various cinematograph companies have little to recommend them, for they are not only far from elevating but give a decidedly wrong impression of life in Europe to the gaping crowds of Chinese who nightly assemble to view what they consider are foreign life and customs. That the cinematograph could be made a valuable means of education is conceded by all, yet in none of the most recent films can we see any attempt towards this end, the French idea of absurdity being predominant in all.
