Summary

The annual meeting of the Manchester Watch Committee, to consider an application for licences for the public performance of stage play and for kinemas, was held at the Town Hall. Councillor J. Johnson, deputy chairman presided. All the existing licences were renewed except a kinema licence in Miles Platting. Mr. Johnson said he was sorry to learn that there was a tendency on the part of film producers to represent murder and other forms of crime in lurid colours, which might have a negative impact on young people, as they were frequenting the picture-houses in greater numbers than formerly. He hoped that the objectionable features mentioned would have serious consideration in future.
