Summary

(By J. D. Bush for S. C. M. Post) In America – What best explains to us this indisputable fact is in the United States, where one finds the utmost national freedom combined with local freedom of every kind. The unifying force of the American press lies not so much in the way in which it expresses as in the manner in which it endeavours to mould or shape public opinion by feeding the imagination and humour of the country. As a mass agency of popular appeal, there are in the United States 2,500 dailies, 4,000 public libraries, and about 18,000 theatres given over to moving pictures.
