Summary

An open letter to the editor of 'The Rock.' Sir, on various occasions you have lamented, in the editorial columns of your erudite little monthly, the low standard of moving pictures shown in the colony of Hongkong; you have also been pleased to praise one particular production that was shown at the Coronet. I refer, of course, to 'The Confession.' This letter is to inform you that I am showing tomorrow another film that ranks in the same class--it is entitled 'Love's Crucible' and was made in Sweden. I feel sure that you will be able to praise this as unreservedly as you did the other and that you will do all in your power to assist me to make it financially worth while to show films of this standard. 'Love's Crucible' will undoubtedly be a disappointment to all whose ideal of a motion picture is of the kind that we get in hundreds from America, but those who delight in seeing the past really made present, who enjoy having human nature and not its travesty displayed on the screen, who are content with the March of events as they are likely to occur in real life, and do not require them to be distorted to provide sensations, will find in this masterpiece not only enjoyment but inspiration. I am, sir, your obedient servant, H. W. Ray.
