There is a theatre, an open air variety show, and a number of cafes. The entertainment is of the least enterprising, the least thrilling. But an obviously faked cinematograph, professing to show how Japan is catching it at the hands of the Russians, is immensely popular. Primitive, only half-educated, and very self-centred, they think in pictures, and these preposterous magic lantern shows stimulate them.
