Mr. H. Shimomura has succeeded Mr. K. Uchida as civil governor of Taihoku. The reception was followed by theatrical and cinematograph performances.

The Christmas Party in connection with the R.E. and the A.S.C. took place yesterday at the Wellington Barracks. The children received gifts and were treated to a cinematograph show by Mr. Blake of the Victoria Theatre.

Arrangements have been made with the Humphrey Bishop Co. to give an entertainment in the theatre of the Peak Club. The cinematograph entertainment advertised for the 2nd June has been postponed till the 9th idem.

Members of the Peak Club are reminded that the cinematograph performance at the Peak Club, in aid of War Charities, which was postponed from Friday the 2nd inst, will now take place on Friday the 9th inst. Tickets may obtain from Peak Club or at the Hongkong Club.

There seems to be a misunderstanding in connection with the sale of the tickets for the Café Chantant on St George's Day. These tickets cover the admittance and afternoon tea in the Drill Hall but not to the various sideshows, cinema, ventriloquist, etc.

The accommodation at St. Stephen's Girls' College was overtaxed. The programme includes children taking part in a concert and a display of cinematograph pictures made an enjoyable finale.

In the afternoon and evening, there was a Cinematograph show, at which excellent films were presented, was well attended, and the thanks of all are due to Messrs. Pathe Freres for kindly loaning the machine.

The side shows were also patronised by many, it being a unique entertainment for Europeans especially to watch all the varieties of Chinese boxing, which permits the use of feet – as French boxing does – and also weapons. There was an up-to-date cinematograph show at which many humorous films…

At the Hotels: At the Peak Hotel a fund was raised for entertaining the men at Mount Austin Barracks. The men were entertained to a cinematograph show where tobacco and other gifts were distributed.

Amoy, May 27 – The celebration of Empire Day proved to be a great success. General subscriptions were invited from British firms and institutions. A cinematograph was held in the Masonic Hall with a large attendance. The proceeds of the day amounted to $8000.

In the report, the Chinese community, in addition to the subscription of $27,435.88 from the theatre provided the juggler, and Messrs Pathe Freres the cinematograph entertainment. Detail of the receipts included, from Victoria Theatre and Theatre Royal.

The Committee acknowledged a list of parties as appreciation of their valuable aid, including Messrs. Pathe Freres for free use of Cinematograph.

The Kwangtung Educational Association was to keep open door to all members and friends on Saturday. Activities including cinematograph shows will be included. Invitations were issued to all schools principals of Canton.

Young folk and elders too are looking forward to the Bazaar arranged for Wednesday and Thursday at St. Paul's College, Glenesly. In the evening there will be an open air cinematograph and Chinese theatrical performance.
